Farming in a Changing Climate: Agriculture in Northumberland

Northumbrian farming landscape

Northumberland County Council and the Rural Design Centre are working on a project to identify and address the non-technical barriers to reducing emissions across agriculture in Northumberland.

This Innovate UK funded project (running until June 2025) will co-develop proposals, led by insight from farmers, stakeholders and supply chains to help inform future council services and support. As well as holding various engagement events with farmers, external stakeholders and council representatives, our work so far has included:

  • 70+ surveys completed

  • 300+ farmers and wider stakeholders engaging with the programme

  • 80 attendees joined us at Kirkley Hall Campus on the 9th October for Northumberland County Council’s Farming in a Changing Climate Conference.

In past months you have told us your experiences and shared valuable insights.

Thanks to you, a huge variety of ideas have been put forward, to be considered for their potential in helping you to reduce emissions on your farm.

This has informed the development of several proposals. Contributions covering wider issues are being fed back to relevant stakeholders through alternative workstreams.

We now need your help to continue to shape the potential service that could help farmers.
