Invitation to Quote: Ferryhill Ladder Centre Refurbishment Project Management

Background and introduction

The Ferryhill Ladder Centre (FLC) in Ferryhill, County Durham, is a thriving community hub based in the community it serves, renovated and run by the community for the community. The voluntary management committee, staff and volunteers run the building, and all its services - which include a busy youth club, lunch club, job club and benefits advice, community garden and much more.

The Centre was created from two semi-detached council houses which were donated to the community by Livin Housing Association twenty-two years ago. The centre requires refurbishment, and the trustees and staff need a project manager to manage the processes of seeking quotes for a series of relatively small-scale refurbishment projects and overseeing the works.

The works required includes improving the security and insulation of the building with new doors and new double glazing, insulating a conservatory to make it fit for purpose all year round, replacing their redundant solar panels and/or reassessing their renewable energy options, and improving their kitchen equipment.

FLC is being supported by the Rural Design Centre (RDC) to apply for funding for these works and for the project management to oversee them. RDC are working with Durham County Council (DCC). DCC is committed to supporting community infrastructure through Shared Prosperity Funding and funding is currently available for community hubs in settlements identified as priorities, Ferryhill is one of the priorities. This funding is available until March 2025.
